A letter to parents

A letter

To the parent reading the back of the tin

You are, we suspect, standing somewhere slightly inconvenient. A supermarket aisle. A chemist. Or a phone at eleven at night, long after everyone else has gone to sleep, trying to work out whether you are doing enough.

We want to say something before you read anything else about our product.

The worry you are carrying is not evidence that you are failing. It is evidence that you are paying attention.

Most children's nutrition is sold by quietly widening that worry and then offering itself as the answer. A number about brain development. A photograph of a child who is taller than yours. The gentle suggestion that other parents already know something you don't.

We have decided not to sell that way. Not because we are better people, but because we think it is the reason so many parents no longer believe anything on a label — and once that trust is gone, an honest product has nowhere left to stand.

So here is our side of the arrangement.

We will tell you exactly what is in the pouch and exactly how much. We will test every batch, including for the things nobody advertises — and we will show you the results rather than summarise them. We will never make a claim about your child's height, brain or immunity. And when there is something we do not have yet, we will write it on the website with a date next to it.

What we will not do is pretend this solves anything larger. It is a glass of carefully made nutrition for the days that do not go to plan — the untouched tiffin, the two bites of roti, the morning that got away from you. It is insurance, not absolution.

You cannot win the dinner-table fight every night. No parent can. This is simply for the nights you don't.

Read the label. Read our competitors' labels too — we wrote a guide on how to do it, knowing full well it makes you a harder customer to sell to. We would rather have you as a sceptic who chose us than a believer who was persuaded.
