What to look for on a kids' nutrition drink label
A take-shopping checklist
What to look for on a kids' nutrition drink label
Seven checks you can run on any tin, in the aisle, in under two minutes.
For parents of children aged 6+ · Educational, not medical advice
If you have decided a nutrition drink is worth it, this is the short version of how to pick a good one. Turn the tin around and run these seven checks. A good product passes most of them; a poor one fails on sugar and secrecy.
-
01
Real base in the first ingredients
Milk or dairy should lead — not sugar, malt or fillers with milk added for flavour. The first two or three ingredients are the product.
-
02
Sugar low on the list, and low per 100g
Check “of which sugars” per 100g. Scan the ingredients for sugar's many names — malt extract, glucose syrup, maltodextrin, invert sugar. If a sugar is in the top three, treat it as a treat.
-
03
Every active named with an amount
DHA, vitamins, minerals — each should show how much. “Proprietary blend” with no numbers means you are not meant to know how little is inside.
-
04
The right nutrients for Indian children
Vitamin D, B12, iron and iodine are the real gaps. A sensible, targeted list beats the longest label.
-
05
No claims about height, brains or immunity
The confident promises are the warning signs. A trustworthy pack describes what is inside, not what it will do to your child.
-
06
A stated origin you can check
Where is the milk from? How is it made? Specifics signal confidence; vagueness signals something to hide.
-
07
Marketed to you, not your child
No mascots, cartoons or collectibles. A product that respects the parent talks to the parent.
A good label hides nothing.
If you have to hunt for a number, that is the answer.
Run it on us
Every check above, we built to pass: an A2 milk base in the lead, no refined sugar, every active named with its amount, the four real gaps targeted, no height/brain/immunity claims, a named origin on Australia's Great Ocean Road, and marketing aimed only at parents. That is not a coincidence — it is the checklist we wrote the product against.
